How to Appeal

Supporting Information for OAS Appeals

If you are appealing to a Review Tribunal after being denied OAS benefits by SDC, you will need to explain why you think you qualify for benefits and you will need to show proof.

To have the best chance to succeed in your appeal, you need to understand the reasons why SDC decided that you should not receive benefits. These reasons are explained in the SDC Explanation of Decision Under Appeal. Then you can provide additional information to support your case.

For an appeal involving your age and the time you've lived in Canada, the information you collect may include any papers which prove your date of birth or that you were living in Canada, such as:

  • Documents.

  • Reports.

  • Letters.

  • Testimony from you or witnesses at the hearing.

For further information about your specific situation, call your Client Service Officer.
