OCRT Complaints Procedures

Are you satisfied with how we treated you?

We hope that our office staff as well as the Review Tribunal members assigned to hear your appeal treated you with respect, courtesy and professionalism. If that is not the case, please do not hesitate to share your concerns with us and indicate what you feel could have been done to better serve you. You can use the form provided on this web site, call us at 1-800-363-0076, send an e-mail to info@ocrt-bctr.gc.ca with the subject line "Complaint," or write us a letter. You will receive an answer as soon as possible.

If your complaint pertains to one of our employees, please provide us with that employee’s name, the date on which the two of you spoke, and an explanation of what you found upsetting. Your complaint will be directed to that employee’s supervisor.

If you are complaining about the manner in which you were treated at the hearing, please provide the date and location of the hearing and indicate whether your complaint pertains to all three panel members or only one or two of them. Your complaint may lead to an internal investigation if the Commissioner considers such action to be advisable. In that event, the panel members who are the subject of your complaint may be asked to account for their actions. However, they will only be informed of the complaint after they have issued their decision on your appeal.

We are also interested in receiving your feedback on any other matters of concern that you may have about our services. For instance, was the hearing location suitable? As well, if an interpreter was provided at your hearing, please let us know if you were satisfied with the quality of the interpretation or not. We will be happy to answer any of your questions or concerns.

Private Disability Insurance Complaints

Unfortunately the OCRT cannot investigate complaints on matters outside its mandate. If you wish to raise concerns regarding public/private disability insurance, there is a body responsible for the oversight of disability insurance providers. Please contact the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC).
