Wildlife Conservation Fund

Where can I apply for funding under the Wildlife Conservation Fund?

The Prince Edward Island Wildlife Conservation Fund was created in 1998 to to provide funding for the protection and enhancement of wildlife and wildlife habitats. Money for the fund comes from a contribution made once per year by each licensed angler, hunter and trapper. The licence fee for 2005/2006 is $20 (including GST). The fee for seniors 65 years of age and over is $13 (including GST), and youth 15 years of age and under do not require a licence.

In 2006, the Department of Environment, Energy and Forestry officially transferred administration of the fund to the Wildlife Conservation Fund Committee which consists of 10 members:

  • three representatives from the angling community;
  • three representatives from the hunting community;
  • one representative from the trapping community;
  • one representative from community watershed groups;
  • one representative of non-consumptive users such as birdwatchers and hikers; and
  • one representative from the Department of Environment, Energy and Forestry.
