Federal Game Officers enforce federal wildlife protection
laws that are the responsibility of Environment Canada. All
officers have successfully completed Environment Canada's
General Enforcement Training Course (GET). These officers
are men and women who have law and securities education, experience
or training in natural resources management, and are physically
and mentally capable of performing the wide variety of tasks
assigned to them. Officers work variable hours, in all kinds
of weather conditions, and perform duties such as patrols,
attending meetings, and producing required reports, including
court documentation. Officers are required to carry a handgun,
and may face hazardous situations pertaining to climate, wildlife
or unhappy law-breakers.
Federal officers are often confused with provincial Conservation
Officers, who enforce the wildlife protection laws of Ontario.
Both classes of officer are designated, however, to enforce
both provincial and federal wildlife protection laws and often
work jointly on wildlife enforcement matters.
Do you want to be an Enforcement Officer?

enforcement? If so, Environment Canada could be interested

Potential candidates must have post-secondary training in
law and securities and/or resource or environmental studies.
Preference may be given to those who have previously worked
as an enforcement officer for a police force or other government
department such as National Parks, Natural Resources, Fisheries
and Oceans, or Canada Customs.
Recruitment occurs on an as-needed basis, depending on regional
requirements for staff. No posting is done here. You must
consult the Public Service Commission
(PSC) Web site regularly. Candidates who are successful
in a PSC competition for employment will attend the required
training and upon successful completion will become sworn
officers.
