Child Care/Early Childhood Program Licensing

Where can I find information about child care licensing?

The PEI Child Care Facilities board is responsible for licensing and license renewal of child care/early childhood programs. The board is also responsible for monitoring and for investigating complaints.

The Child Care Facilities Act is available online as a PDF document.

Differences in types of service and programs offered have resulted in the need for the Child Care Facilities Board to distinguish specific types of facilities, with slight variations in the requirements for each. The decision as to whether a facility is to be licensed as a Type I or II facility is the responsibility of the Child Care Facilities Board.

Type I License: Early Childhood Centre

Type II License: Day Care Home, School Age Child Care Centre.
