DRIVING ON PEI /
Registration and Inspection According to the Highway Traffic Act, all vehicles operated on Island highways must be registered. Exceptions to this are vehicles owned by the Department of National Defence, transporters, dealers, lien holders, or non-residents or under a temporary permit issued by the Department of Transportation and Public Works, any farm machinery that is only incidentally operated on a highway, and any special mobile equipment specifically exempted by the Registrar.
It is against the law on PEI to knowingly operate or, being the owner, permit another person to operate a vehicle that is required to be registered:
- that is not registered;
- the registration of which is expired; or
- while the registration of the vehicle is revoked or suspended.
The Registrar is authorized to suspend, cancel or revoke a registration permit if the vehicle has not been inspected in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Inspection Regulation or where the vehicle is being operted with an inspection sticker that has expired or that is not valid.
