Where do I get information about firearms?

What are the regulations for displaying non-restricted firearms at home?
Display non-restricted firearms, like most rifles and shotguns:

  • unloaded; AND
    • by using a secure locking device; or
    • by locking firearms in a sturdy, secure, container or room that cannot be easily broken open or into; AND
  • in a place where ammunition for the firearm IS NOT displayed and not easy to obtain
Are there different regulations for displaying non-restricted firearms away from home?
No. The regulation for displaying non-restricted firearms at home and away from home are the same.

What are the regulations for displaying restricted and prohibited firearms at home?
At home, display restricted and prohibited firearms:

  • unloaded; AND
  • unable to be fired by using a secure locking device; AND
  • securely attached to something that cannot be moved; AND
  • in a place where ammunition for the firearm IS NOT displayed and not easy to obtain.
Automatic firearms with a removable bolts or bolt-carriers must be displayed with the bolt or bolt-carrier removed. The bolts or bolt-carriers must be securely locked in a separate room that cannot be easily broken into.

What are the regulations for displaying restricted and prohibited firearms away from home?
Away from the home, display restricted firearms:

  • unloaded; AND
  • unable to be fired by using a secure locking device; AND
  • securely attached to the display with something strong, like a chain or metal cable, so that the firearms cannot be easily removed (Firearms can be removed from the display to allow someone to handle them, but the firearms must be under the direct immedediate supervision of the person displaying them.); AND
  • in a place where ammunition for the firearm IS NOT displayed and easy to obtain. Ammunition can be displayed with the firearm, if the ammunition is securely locked in a sturdy container that cannot easily be broken open or into.
Automatic firearms with removable bolts or bolt-carriers must be displayed with the bolt or bolt-carrier removed. The bolts or bolt-carriers must be securely locked in a separate room that cannot be easily broken into.
