Part 3 - Legal Status and Capacity
- Each First Nation and the United Anishnaabeg Councils are separate legal entities, with
the capacity, rights, powers and privileges of a natural person, such as to:
- enter into all forms of agreements;
- acquire, hold, sell or exchange real property, and any interest therein;
- acquire, hold, expend, invest and borrow money and securities, or guarantee the
repayment of money or securities;
- carry on business;
- sue, or be sued, in its own name; and
- do other things ancillary to its capacities, rights, powers, and privileges.
