![]() AcknowledgementsThis booklet was first conceived in 1985 when I saw two booklets in South Africa promoting conservation of eagles and vultures to landowners in that country. Three students, Ivan Shukster, Laurie Hunt and Diana Keith contributed original text as class projects in the following years. The text was then rewritten and edited. An earlier draft was reviewed by several raptor enthusiasts. The Prairie for Tomorrow program of World Wildlife Fund Canada and Alberta Forestry, Lands and Wildlife provided funding which was used to print the booklet. Other research and production funds came from Canadian Wildlife Service of Environment Canada, the North American Waterfowl Management Plan, and Alberta Sports, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation. The quote by Dr. Adrian Forsyth is taken from his essay, "The End of Emptiness", which appeared in Equinox in 1982 (Vol. No. 11, pp. 66-78). This booklet benefitted from the contributions of the following people: Ron Bjorge, Michael J. Chutter, Ken DeSmet, H. Loney Dickson, Andrew Didiuk, Gary Erickson, Tom Ethier, Dale Hjertaas, Ed Hoffman, C. Stuart Houston, Paul C. James, Gerald McKeating, David G. Miller, David Moore, Beth Munro-Hill, R. Wayne Nelson, Robert Nero, Josef K. Schmutz, Chris Shank, Richard Stardom and Ted Wiens. I thank all those involved in this lengthy project. Geoff Holroyd |
