Application for Employment Insurance benefits on-line

Your personal information is secure with us

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) is taking measures to ensure that your electronic transactions with us are secure and that your privacy is protected. There are three principal means of ensuring the security of client transactions:

  • Encryption,

which electronically scrambles the data stream between your computer and our server. This minimizes the risk that Internet hackers and other users will alter or view information being transmitted. You must be using a browser with 128-bit encryption in order to access this site.
  • Firewalls,

which are a combination of hardware and software designed to securely separate the outside world from our internal computer systems and database.
  • Authentication,

which ensures that the identity of the individual submitting the data is verified. Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) will verify your identity by a combination of methods and data comparisons. You will be asked for three pieces of identifying information in order to submit your application. These pieces of identification make up your electronic signature. To ensure that others cannot use your electronic signature, make sure that you keep your identification information confidential.

HRSDC does not require your credit card information and will not ask for it through the Application for Unemployment Insurance benefits on-line or any departmental on-line applications. If you are prompted to provide such information, please disregard the prompt.

You should never send confidential information such as your Social Insurance Number or Access Code via Internet e-mail. Our encryption system does not function on e-mail.
