Investigations Section

The investigations section investigates known or potential violations of the Fisheries Act and the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), and regulations under those Acts. Investigations include the gathering of evidence to determine whether enforcement action, such as the issuance of Warning Letters or the laying of charges, should be taken. In cases where charges are laid, prosecutions are conducted by the Department of Justice.

The regulations are enforced according to the policies of the department.
