Iceberg Glossary
- Glacier
- A mass of snow and ice continuously moving from higher to lower ground or, if afloat, continuously spreading.
- Calving
- The breaking away of a mass of ice from an ice wall, ice front or iceberg.
- Grounding
- Floating ice which is aground in shoal water.
- Pack Ice
- Also known as drift Ice. A term used in a wide sense to include any area of ice, other than fast ice, no matter what form it takes or how it is disposed. When concentrations are high, ie., 7/10 or more, the term pack ice is normally used. When concentrations are 6/10 or less the term drift ice is normally used.
