New Great Lakes reports from the International Joint Commission
Visit "www.ijc.org" for more information about two new Great Lakes reports published by theInternational Joint Commission (IJC). In preparation for writing its Twelfth Biennial Report on Great Lakes Water Quality, expected later in 2004, the IJC has released the 2001-2003 Priorities and Progress under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, authored by its advisory boards and council on the Great Lakes. The report covers four specific priority issues investigated by the boards and council: mercury; Remedial Action Plans; urbanization and the water quality linkage; and impacts of climate change in the Great Lakes Basin. Emerging issues for the Great Lakes in the 21st century also were covered.
A second report, Climate Change and Water Quality in the Great Lakes Basin, released by the IJC¹s Water Quality Board, provides insight and advice on an issue that could have significant implications for the Great Lakes Basin. The report, authored by climate change experts Joel Scheraga, Linda Mortsch of Environment Canada and Marianne Aldenexplores risks, opportunities and responses associated with climate change and Great Lakes water quality.
