The Floe Edge Information Service monitors floe edge positions within selected regions of the Canadian Arctic.

The products on this site deal with information to help you track the development and break-up of large floe edges within a specified region. They include:


As of 2003, this service only applies to eastern Lancaster Sound region. In the future, it will expand to include other Arctic regions.

Northern View Project

In 2003, the Canadian Ice Service, Noetix Research Inc., the Canadian Space Agency and Radarsat International Ltd will partner under the Northern View Project to provide regular RADARSAT-1 and Envisat ASAR floe edge images. The Northern View Project aims at promoting the use of Earth-observation (satellite) data in the study and monitoring of northern environments.
