Great Lakes Successes

Thousands of people are making an extraordinary difference in contributing towards the health of the Great Lakes Basin Ecosystem, through community based action, government leadership and new technology. View our successes and achievements and discover the people making a difference!

Fact!  Throughout the Areas of Concern, stakeholders have helped define how clean they want their communities to be. Hundreds of thousands of volunteer days have been donated to the cleanup process. Over 1000 projects have been launched and supported by community groups.

Fact!  Over 60 industries in the Great Lakes Areas of Concern have been recognized by government for pollution prevention initiatives that are reducing or eliminating discharge of contaminants to our waterways.

 Fact! As a result of investment in stormwater management and sewage treatment, swimming is possible once again in Collingwood Harbour, Spanish Harbour and parts of Toronto, Hamilton Harbour, St. Clair River, Welland River and Bay of Quinte.
