Data on SME Financing in Canada

In 1999, the Federal government mandated Industry Canada, Statistics Canada and the Department of Finance to establish the SME Financing Data Initiative (SME FDI) to undertake a comprehensive program of data collection and analysis on the state of financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Canada. The main goal of this program is to improve the quantity and quality of information on the supply of and demand for SME financing covering the entire spectrum of SME financing available in Canada.

The data presented in this section have been selected from the surveys undertaken to date on the basis that they would be the most useful and of greatest interest to SMEs in their search for financing. This analysis will help in providing a perspective of the trends in the following areas of SME financing:
