Great Lakes Conservation Blueprint for Biodiversity

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) have worked together to complete the Great Lakes Conservation Blueprint for Biodiversity, a shared vision for natural heritage conservation. It identifies a portfolio of sites representing high quality terrestrial and freshwater areas that can support a broad range of natural biodiversity, including species at risk.  The Great Lakes Conservation Blueprint contributes to the goals of Ontario's Biodiversity Strategy.

NCC and the MNR worked together with a team of conservation scientists to complete the ecologically-based assessment of biodiversity for Ontario's Great Lakes region.  The Conservation Blueprint recognizes and builds upon existing conservation achievements on Crown and private lands in Ontario.

Members of the Ontario Geospatial Data Exchange (OGDE) can acquire digital data and information by accessing Land Information Ontario and searching the geospatial data directory using the keyword “Blueprint”.  If you are not a member of OGDE, please contact the Nature Conservancy of Canada to request digital information.

If you have questions or require further information, please contact Mike McMurtry, NHIC or Dan Kraus, NCC.
