1. Q: Is international volunteering recognized as part of a candidate’s volunteer experience?
  A: No. The award recognizes individuals whose volunteer efforts have had a direct impact on Canadians.
 
2. Q: Do candidates have to be active volunteers to be considered for the award?
  A: No. However, their past volunteer efforts should reflect a significant contribution.
 
3. Q: Can I nominate a couple or a group of people for the award?
  A: No. The award is presented annually to one man and one woman.
 
4. Q: Is there an age requirement?
  A: No. All nominations are welcome, regardless of the age of the candidate. However, the candidate’s volunteer efforts should reflect a substantial portion of his or her life.
 
5. Q: How are nominations evaluated?
  A: The Thérèse Casgrain Volunteer Award National Selection Committee, an independent body, evaluates the candidates. The Committee consists of a chairperson, former award recipients, representatives from the voluntary sector across Canada, members of the Thérèse F. Casgrain Foundation and representatives of the Government of Canada.
 
6. Q: Is it possible to re-nominate a candidate from year to year?
  A: Yes. However, a new nomination form and consent form must be completed.
 
7. Q: Do nominations need to be bilingual?
  A: Nominations will be accepted in either French or English.
 
8. Q: Will I be advised of the outcome of my nomination?
  A: All candidates and sponsors will be advised of the successful award recipients.
 
9. Q: Will nominations be returned to sponsors?
  A: No. All materials submitted become the property of the Government of Canada and are subject to the Access to Information Act and to the Privacy Act.
