Water Quality In Ontario Region

Welcome to the NEW Ontario Water Quality Monitoring Office website.

About Us:

The primary functions of the Ontario Water Quality Monitoring Office (WQMSD) are:

  1. Investigate and assess ambient environmental quality conditions of the Great Lakes and their Interconnecting Channels and measure contaminants in rain and snow.

  2. Conduct environmental quality studies in watersheds or areas of federal interest in Ontario, and study the environmental risk of in-use pesticides used in Ontario.

  3. Carry out integrated data interpretation and reporting and provide scientific/technical information and advice.
Great Lakes - Water Quality
  • Conduct open-lake cruises on Lakes Ontario, Erie, Huron/Georgian Bay & Superior.
Connecting Channels - Water Quality
  • Conduct water-quality monitoring in St. Lawrence, Niagara, St. Clair & Detroit Rivers.
Contaminants in Precipitation
  • Measure contaminants in rain and snow, in the Great Lakes Basin
Pesticides in Aquatic Ecosystems
  • Measure pesticides in urban & rural watersheds of the Great Lakes Basin
