The primary functions of the Ontario Water Quality Monitoring Office (WQMSD) are:
- Investigate and assess ambient environmental quality conditions of the Great Lakes and their Interconnecting Channels and measure contaminants in rain and snow.
- Conduct environmental quality studies in watersheds or areas of federal interest in Ontario, and study the environmental risk of in-use pesticides used in Ontario.
- Carry out integrated data interpretation and reporting and provide scientific/technical information and advice.
