I found an injured bird in my backyard. Is there someone I can call to get help for the bird?

There are a number of wildlife rehabilitation centres across Canada, and some specialize in rehabilitating injured birds. Contact a centre in your area for advice on helping the bird in your backyard. Local veterinary clinics are often able to provide basic help and refer you to a more specialized rehabilitation centre.

If you were to find another injured animal, wait before approaching it to make sure that the animal is in fact in need of help. With some species, it is normal for the animal to remain quiet and motionless for long periods of time. It is also normal in some cases for the parents to leave their young unattended.

The following is a list of some of the regional wildlife rehabilitation centres in Canada. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, and most of these centres focus on specific types of wildlife.
