Technical Programs engineering staff provide specialized engineering expertise, products, services, advice and support to Civil Aviation clients within Transport Canada and strive to improve and promote technical excellence and co-operation respecting safety and cost-effectiveness within the Canadian aviation community.

The Technical Programs engineering work program encompasses a number of on-going activities to achieve its mandate including: research and development, technical evaluations and assessments, provision of technical documentation, promotion of advances in technology, provision of technical leadership, assistance in the development of regulations/standards, inspection/auditing support and the national/international harmonization of regulations, standards, and procedures.

Our Focus is on:

  • Airfield Pavement Structures (runways, taxiways, aprons) with primary emphasis on safety requirements for their provision, operation and maintenance; and
     
  • Winter Maintenance for airside pavements which includes runway surface condition reporting, snow removal, ice control and runway friction measurement.
