Hang Glider in Class E Airspace
Reference
Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) Part VI, Subpart 2,

Notice of Proposed Amendment NPA 97-427
Background
The provisions for operation of a hang glider in Class E airspace were
previously found in the Hang Glider Exemption. They are now found in CAR 602.29;
however, a portion was inadvertently omitted.
NPA 97-427 has been accepted at the October 28, 1997 CARAC meeting and will
rectify the omission from the CARs.
Action
Effective immediately the following may be applied
(3) A person may operate a hang glider in Class E airspace where
(a) the pilot
- is at least 16 years of age,
- is in possession of a Category 1, 3, or 4 medical certificate, and
has obtained a grade of not less than 60 per cent on a Department of Transport
written examination pertaining to the Canadian Aviation Regulations, air
traffic procedures, flight instruments, navigation, flight operations and human factors
respecting hang glider operations in Class E airspace, or within the previous five
years has held a valid pilot permit or licence which includes the privilege to operate
in Class E airspace without prior authorization, or has successfully completed the
required examination for any pilot permit or licence which includes the privilege to
operate in Class E airspace without prior authorization;

Expiry
This Policy Letter will expire with the appropriate amendment to the CARs.
