Transport Canada Approval of Air Operator Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training Programs and Dangerous Goods Chapters of Operations Manual

Introduction

This notice is directed to Air Operators.

Regulations governing the transport of Dangerous Goods

The Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDGR) and by reference the International Civil Aviation Organization Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (ICAO TI's) govern the transport by air of dangerous goods to, from and within Canada.

On August 15, 2002 the Revised TDGR will be in force. Part 6, Training and Part 12, Air of these Regulations contain amendments that may require the modification of an air operator's Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training Programs and Dangerous Goods Chapter of their Operations Manual. Amendments made to these documents must be approved by Transport Canada prior to their application. Air Operators must ensure that they also obtain Transport Canada approval for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training Programs of third parties contracted to perform TDGR related duties on their behalf.

Guidelines and References for the Development and Standardization of Dangerous Goods Training Programs for Air Transport in Canada

In order to obtain Transport Canada approval for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training Programs, Air Operators must meet the standard established in the Transport Canada Guidelines and References for the Development and Standardization of Dangerous Goods Training Programs for Air Transport in Canada (TP12208) January 23, 2002 Edition. You can obtain this document from our website (www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/commerce/manuals/tp12208/menu.htm)  or by contacting your local Regional Office.

Dangerous Goods Chapter - Generic Operation's Manual

In order to obtain Transport Canada approval for the Dangerous Goods Chapter of the Operations Manual, Air Operators may use the Dangerous Goods Chapter in the Generic Operation's Manual.
