"Absolutely no justification" for murderous terror attacks on London

MONTREAL - July 7, 2005 - Rights & Democracy condemns today's terrorist attacks on innocent civilians in London, England, and offers its condolescences to the victims and their families.

"There is absolutely no justification for such barbaric acts of murder," said Jean-Louis Roy, President of Rights & Democracy. "Rights & Democracy joins the international community in mourning those killed and denouncing these acts of terror and hatred."

Such attacks violate the most basic notions of human decency and human rights. Furthermore, these acts only serve to reinforce the will of those seek to intimidate. Rights & Democracy urges the international community to pursue and prosecute the perpetrators of today's attacks within the full-extent of international law.

Rights & Democracy is a non-partisan, independent Canadian institution created by an Act of Parliament in 1988 to promote, advocate and defend the democratic and human rights set out in the International Bill of Human Rights. In cooperation with civil society and governments in Canada and abroad, Rights & Democracy initiates and supports programmes to strengthen laws and democratic institutions, principally in developing countries.
