This booklet, the second in a series on gender-sensitive documentation methodology is published by the Montreal-based Rights & Democracy with Amnesty International Canada (English Section).

Ariane Brunet, Coordinator of the Women's Rights Programme at Rights & Democracy and Catherine Balfour, refugee coordinator at Amnesty International will launch the publication Friday, May 4 at 7 p.m. at the Hotel Martime, boul. René-Lévesque in Montreal.

"We are very proud to be contributing to the global efforts to recognize women's rights as human rights and to join with Amnesty International to better document human rights violations against women in armed conflicts, to ensure that the voices of women are not silenced and that justice can be served," said Warren Allmand, the President of Rights & Democracy.

Written by Agnès Callamard of Amnesty's International Secretariat in London in collaboration with Ms. Brunet and other experts, the booklet is part of a series which includes a manual Methodology for Gender-Sensitive Research and a previously published booklet: Documenting Human Rights Violations by State Agents: Sexual Violence.

"This series of publications is a very important initiative as Amnesty International and Rights & Democracy have pooled their resources and expertise in this innovative project designed to assist local activists, non-governmental organizations and other agencies to collect, analyze and disseminate information on violence against women in armed conflicts," said Alex Neve, Secretary General of Amnesty International-Canada (English Section).

Investigating Violations of Women's Human Rights in Armed Conflicts is available in French and English. The price is CDN $15.00, plus CDN$ 5.00 for postage outside Canada. Please see the Publications page for ordering information. Two more booklets are planned. They will address the issue of documenting human rights violations in the family and in the community.
