Objective

To provide skills in the management and resolution of a systemic issue to government and industry officials.

Who should attend

Any person designated by industry and Transport Canada who has the knowledge and skills to manage a systemic issue to successful resolution.

Description

Targeted Skills:

  • Apply project management process to the management of the issue

  • Define the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in the issue

  • Define the terms of reference and resource requirements for the Systemic Issue Management Team

  • Link the issue with others to ensure correct scaling and scoping

  • Manage a team of subject matter experts from industry and government

  • Report to senior management on courses of action and recommendations

  • Select and use the appropriate resolution process: issue, problem, conflict

Cultural Change:

  • Breaking out of tightly defined roles
  • Acceptance and commitment to the process

Delivery Mechanism

  • A series of modules on: the overall project management approach to managing a Systemic Issue Management Team: integration of the processes of issue, problem and conflict resolution; supporting theory, tools and processes.

  • Case studies for each of the processes

Prerequisites

  • Completed Aircraft Certification Specialty Course or equivalent
  • Demonstrated understanding of project management practices
  • Impartiality recognized by peers on the systemic issue to be managed
