The Honourable Carol Skelton, Minister of National Revenue and Minister of Western Economic Diversification

Conservative Party of Canada MP Carol Skelton was first elected on November 27, 2000 as the Member of Parliament for Saskatoon - Rosetown - Biggar.  She was re-elected by a much larger margin on June 28, 2004 and again for a third consecutive term on January 23, 2006.

On February 6, 2006, she became the first elected female Minister from Saskatchewan.  She was appointed, and continues as, the Minister of National Revenue and the Minister of Western Economic Diversification.

In 2004, Carol Skelton was selected in a survey by the influential Hill Times newspaper as the third hardest-working MP.  In 2005, she improved on that result and moved up into second place.

Most recently, Carol Skelton was the Official Opposition Critic for Social Development and also Critic for Public Health.  She also sat as the Vice-Chair on the new Parliamentary Committee for Persons with Disabilities.  Before that, she was the Senior Critic for Western Economic Diversification and the Critic for Human Resources & Skills Development (Social Economy).  She previously served as Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition.  Prior to this position, she was the Deputy Health Critic and Deputy House Leader for the Official Opposition and was responsible for reviewing the Canadian Alliance's natural health products policy.  She also monitored the implementation of the national blood screening process for West Nile Virus.  When first elected, she was the Official Opposition Critic for Human Resources & Development Canada (HRDC).

Mrs. Skelton was a Coordinator for the Canadian Blood Services prior to being elected to the House of Commons. She also has a record of service as a leader in her community, having served in organizations ranging from 4-H to the Royal Canadian Legion. In her work with the Canadian Red Cross she worked as a Family Services Officer in Winnipeg during the Manitoba flood and in Nebraska and Iowa during the great flood of the Mississippi.

Carol's past political involvement include; Member of the Advisory Committee to the Minister of Health on Alcohol, Drugs and Youth in Saskatchewan; former Board Member of the Saskatchewan Research Council; former Board Member of the Canadian 4-H Council, on behalf of the Canadian Hereford Association and former member of the Management Committee for the Saskatchewan Party.

Born in Biggar, Saskatchewan on December 12, 1945, Mrs. Skelton resides in Harris, Saskatchewan. She is married to Noel and has shared in the management of their farm for 41 years.  They have three grown children and five beautiful granddaughters.
