Registering a new business for Revenu Québec files

To use this service

Access to service

Purpose of the service

To register a business for the various files, named below, that are administered by Revenu Québec and for which the business is required to be registered:

  • corporation income tax
  • source deductions
  • goods and services tax (GST) and harmonized sales tax (HST), pursuant to the Excise Tax Act
  • Québec sales tax (QST), pursuant to the Act respecting the Québec sales tax.
UsersIndividuals in business (self-employed persons), corporations, partnerships, or any other legal entity
Restrictions

This service is not available to

  • a business formed as a result of a merger
  • a corporation whose charter was drawn up by a body other than the Registraire des entreprises (REQ) or Industry Canada (Strategis)
  • an individual or an individual in business who has declared bankruptcy or has filed a proposal in bankruptcy or a consumer proposal.
Procedure

Important:

To register your business, you must answer all of the questions concerning your situation, and provide certain personal information, such as

  • your last name and first name;
  • your social insurance number;
  • your date of birth;
  • the postal code of your home address;
  • the amount from line 199 of the most recent income tax return for which you received a notice of assessment from Revenu Québec.

If you are registering an individual, all of the above data must be provided with respect to the individual.

If you are registering a partnership, the partner that registers the business must provide all of the above data and, if applicable, sign the registration form respecting the GST/HST and the QST. You also need to provide all of the above data, with the exception of the amount shown on line 199 of the income tax return, with respect to the other partners.

If you are registering a corporation or other legal entity, the president, the vice-president, the secretary or the treasurer must provide all of the above data and, if applicable, sign the registration form respecting the GST/HST and the QST. You also need to provide all of the above data, with the exception of the amount shown on line 199 of the income tax return, with respect to the other directors.

You may be asked to provide the following additional information:

  • the Québec enterprise number (NEQ) (which must be provided in the case of a corporation with a Québec charter);
  • the federal Business Number (which must be provided in the case of a corporation with a federal charter);
  • the certificate number of the charter, in the case of a corporation with a federal charter;
  • the business's Revenu Québec identification number.
Note
You should have this information on hand before starting to enter data about the business.

At the end of the procedure, Revenu Québec will

  • ask you to validate the data provided and to transmit them electronically;
  • send an acknowledgment of receipt containing a reference number and the data transmission date;
  • confirm the registration of your business by issuing file numbers or indicate that Revenu Québec will take charge of your request;
  • inform you, in certain cases, that the QST registration form must be printed out and signed;
  • ask you to print out the registration certificate, if applicable; and
  • ask you to register your business for Clic Revenu electronic services.
