Desktop Applications (version 6.1)

Available January 9 to December 13, 2006

This convenient filing option is for employers who have to file 1 to 70 T4 slips, or 1 to 700 T1204 slips.

The Desktop applications will enable businesses to:

1. create an electronic T4 or T1204 Information return;
2. validate data;
3. calculate totals for the summary;
4. use the electronic data to print employee slips; and
5. securely submit encrypted returns via the Internet.

Computer requirements

If you meet the following requirements, you should have no trouble running the Desktop applications.

• Microsoft Windows 98 (1^st and 2^nd editions), Windows NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 6a), Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional (with Service Pack 1), or Windows 2000 Professional (with Service Pack 3)
• Pentium 166 MHz or higher;
• 64 MB system RAM or higher;
• 200 MB of available disk space on your hard drive;
• Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4.2_08;
• 128-bit Web browser;
• 28,800-baud modem or faster.

Downloading and Installing the Desktop application

You must first download and install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.2_08 on your computer prior to installing the Desktop application.

1. Download the appropriate file below:
   • For the T4 Desktop application, save the file t4_install.exe to your desktop.
     
     
   • For the T1204 Desktop application, save the file t1204_install.exe to your desktop.
   
   
2. Double click on the "Install" icon to initiate the installation process.
   
   
3. Choose your language preference from the drop-down list menu, and click "OK".
   
   
4. After you have read the instructions on the "Introduction" page, click "Next".
   
   
5. After reading the License Agreement, select "I Accept" and then "Next".
   
   
6. On the "Choose the Java Virtual Machine" screen, select the Java Runtime Environment (JRE)1.4.2_08 and click "Next."
   
   
7. On the "Choose Install Folder" page, we recommend choosing the default folder, then click "Next".
   
   
8. On the "Choose Shortcut Folder" page, we recommend choosing the default folder, then click "Next".
   
   
9. Pre-Installation Summary - click "Install."
   
   
10. On the "Install Complete" page, click "Done".

Starting the Desktop application

To launch the Desktop application, select "Start", "Programs", "T4 Internet - T4 par Internet 6.1" and click on "T4 Internet - T4 par Internet 6.1".

T1204 filers must select "T1204 Internet - T1204 Par Internet 6.1" from the "Programs" menu.
