In this section you will find the answers to the most frequently asked questions about taking part in an international youth program.
Q If I come to Canada, can I work in any province?
A Yes, you can look for a job anywhere in Canada, from the beautiful Maritimes to the breathtaking West Coast and anyplace in between.
Q What jobs can I do in Canada?
A You can work in any field, but if you want to work in a field that brings you into close contact with people, namely in health services field occupations, primary or secondary school teaching or child care, you must undergo a medical examination by a physician recognized by the Canadian government.
Q Where can I find information that will help me find a job in Canada?
A Youth ...on the move! provides resources such as job search Web sites that can help you start your hunt for employment in Canada. Check out the Country Information section for employment resources.
Q Can I work while I am studying in Canada?
A More information about working and studying in Canada can be found on the Citizen and Immigration Canada Web site at: www.cic.gc.ca
Q Where can I find information about getting a study permit in Canada?
A Check out the Citizen and Immigration Web site for more information at: www.cic.gc.ca
Q How long in advance should I plan before coming to Canada to work or study?
A It depends on the purpose of your stay in Canada and varies from program to program, but it is good advice to plan between six month to one year ahead of time (and sometimes longer)!
Q Are the scholarships listed on Youth ...on the move! the only ones that are available to me?
A No, individual educational institutions may have scholarships or special programs that help you to study in Canada. Contact the university that interests you or check out the following Web site for more information: www.aucc.ca
Q What are the benefits of an International Youth Program?
A Today's job market is pretty competitive! Taking part in an international program will give you valuable skills and knowledge that are increasingly important in today's global marketplace. You will gain new language skills, an appreciation and better understanding of different cultures, and contribute to your personal and professional development. Just check out some of the Success Stories on this Web site and see what those who have done it say!
Q Do I have to speak English or French to participate in the programs listed on this Web site?
A It depends from program to program, but there are many that do not require you to have a knowledge of Canada's two official languages. It is always good to have a little understanding of the language before you leave for Canada.
