Browser set-up

Only clients with browsers that use 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) 3.0 encryption can use our online services. The following browsers and operating systems are supported:

  • Microsoft Windows with Internet Explorer version 4.0 or higher.
  • Microsoft Windows with Netscape Communicator/Navigator 4.0 or higher (see notice below).

Notice to users of Netscape

Netscape versions 4.78 and 4.79

If you use Netscape 4.78 or 4.79, you may have difficulty viewing the pages of PKI. For example, the font may be very small, the displays may not be properly aligned, or images may be incomplete. The CRA is unable to correct all the presentation difficulties with these two versions.

Netscape 6.10

This version of Netscape is not fully compatible with some applications on our Web site. As a result, we are unable to provide full support for it. Later versions of Netscape are fully compatible with all applications on our Web site. If you experience any difficulties, please see the Netscape Web site for more information.

How to adjust your Microsoft Internet Explorer settings

From the menu bar, select "Tools", then "Internet Options". Select the "Security" tab. Click on "Customs Level" and the "Security Settings" window will open. In the "Reset customs settings" box, click on the arrow and select "Medium". Click "OK".

How to adjust your Netscape Communicator/Navigator settings

From the menu bar, select "Edit", then "Preferences". In the "Category" box, click on "Advanced". A new selection will appear on the right: make sure that the "Accept all cookies" box is checked. Do not select the "Warn me before accepting a cookie" box. Click "OK".

What can you do if your browser does not have 128-bit SSL 3.0 encryption?

If your browser does not have 128-bit SSL 3.0 encryption, you should upgrade your browser. The easiest ways to get these upgrades are described below:

Downloading 128-bit Netscape Navigator

  1. Go to the Netscape Web site.
  2. Click on Free download
  3. Install the software following Netscape's instructions. This process can take several hours.

Downloading 128-bit Microsoft Internet Explorer

  1. Go to the Microsoft Web site.
  2. Select the most recent version of Internet Explorer, which automatically comes with the 128-bit browser.
  3. Select your language from the drop-down list and click Go.
  4. Click the Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 link to download.
  5. Install the software following Microsoft's instructions. This process can take several hours.

Mac Operating Systems - Tested Browsers

Although other Web browsers may also function with Mac operating systems, we have tested Mac operating system 9.2.2 with Internet Explorer 5, and have found that it works with PKI.

Note

The Canada Revenue Agency is not responsible for any difficulties or problems in downloading and installing software. If you encounter difficulties, contact your software supplier for technical support.
