About the Fuel Consumption Guide

The annual Fuel Consumption Guide provides data on the fuel consumption of new model year passenger cars, light-duty pickup trucks, vans and special purpose vehicles. Consumers may use this information to compare the fuel consumption of various makes and models and to select the most fuel-efficient vehicle for their needs.

The Guide is published by Natural Resources Canada, using information collected by Transport Canada. The Guide lists fuel consumption estimates in both litres-per-100 kilometres and miles-per-gallon for most vehicles available for the new model year. The vehicles listed in the Guide are also divided by size into various classes of vehicles.

Fuel consumption information is only available for motor vehicles which do not exceed the light-duty weight limit of 3 855 kg (8 500 lb.) gross vehicle weight.
