How do you correct your electronic information return?

Since February 2003, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has been accepting cancellations and amendments in electronic format for Information slips.

There are several ways to correct your electronic information return:

  1. If you use commercial software, consult the accompanying documents or contact the company's support desk.

  2. You can use Internet filing to correct a return that you've already sent to us by using T4 Web forms or Internet File Transfer (XML).

  3. If you are using paper to submit an amendment or cancellation, print a paper copy of the T4 slip and clearly identify the slip by writing "AMENDED" at the top. When you amend a slip, make sure you complete all the necessary boxes, including the information that was correct on the original slip. Distribute the amended slip to your employees the same way you sent the original.

Send copy 1 of the slips to any tax centre with a letter explaining the reason for the amendment.

    Note
When you send us amended slips, you do not have to file an amended Summary form.
