It has recently been discovered that PAs have not been reported for several years, or that incorrect PAs were reported, what should be done?

[Former Question #3 from FAQs archived on September 19, 2006] It has recently been discovered that PAs have not been reported for several years, or that incorrect PAs were reported, what should be done?

If the incorrect or unreported PAs are for the immediately preceding year only, (i.e. error noted in 2002 for 2001 PAs only) then amended T4s must be issued. If the incorrect or unreported PAs are for numerous years or are for years prior to the immediately preceding year, (i.e. error noted in 2002 for 2000 or earlier PAs) then a list should be submitted to the Registered Plans Directorate. Such list should contain the name and SIN number of the individual and the amount of the PA(s) for each year. You may also want to contact the employees involved to advise them that if RRSP contributions have been made for the year(s) in question, their tax returns may be reassessed. If you have any questions on this matter, contact the Registered Plans Directorate at 1-800-267-3100.
