Description:
The Canada-Newfoundland Atlantic Accord Implementation Act establishes the Canada-Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board which is responsible for ensuring that environmental impact assessments are conducted of these undertakings. By virtue of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), with the Province and Board, Environment Canada may be called upon to provide advice and assistance with respect to the environmental aspects of off-shore petroleum operations

These regulations require operator to establish a pollution prevention plan to monitor the measures adopted and to minimise or mitigate the effect on the natural environment of routine offshore operations.
