Previous Contents Next

Acknowledgements

This document summarizes the ideas generated in workshop discussions at the Investing in Children conference. Thus, thanks are due first of all to the 370 people who participated - your passion for children was palpable throughout the conference. Particular thanks go to those who contributed their ideas for action in policy and program areas, drawing from their personal experiences and their work in various fields. We hope you recognize your ideas here, and learn from others.

Secondly, the work of the authors of the chapters is gratefully acknowledged; they had the difficult job of pulling together and sorting out a pot-pourri of questions, comments, opinions and debates. Thanks to Havi Echenberg and Lynne Toupin (chapter 1); Saul Schwartz and John Greenwood, from the Social Research and Demonstration Corporation (chapter 2); Delaney Turner, Canadian Council on Social Development (chapter 3); Nathan Gilbert, from the Laidlaw Foundation (chapter 4); Karen Kidder and Dianne Rogers, Canadian Institute of Child Health (chapter 5); Louise Hanvey and Susan Swanson (chapter 6); Christa Japel and Martine Hébert from the Groupe de recherche sur l'inadaptation psychosocial chez l'enfant (G. R. I. P) of the University of Montreal (chapter 7); and Carol Crill Russell and Melissa Culter of the Invest in Kids Foundation (chapter 8).

Special thanks also go to Molly Wolfe for editing the whole document, to Blaize Mumford for her work on the introduction and conclusion, and to the Publications Unit of Applied Research Branch who coordinated the publication of the document.

The conference itself was funded in part by the following corporate sponsors: Royal Bank Financial Group, Invest in Kids Foundation and Johnson & Johnson.

This document was produced by staff of the Income Security and Social Development Studies Directorate, Applied Research Branch, Human Resources Development Canada, including Satya Brink, Sarah Connor, Cindy Cook, Margo Craig Garrison, Tony Haddad, Joanne Jones, Susan McKellar, Liz Nieman, Christina Norris, Joelle Picard and Allen Zeesman.
