- Conduct periodic inspections and certification of ships (hull,
machinery, equipment)
- Execute occurrence investigations
- Execute pollution investigations and prosecutions
- Carry out inspections of vessels to ensure dangerous goods
regulations are followed
- Monitor for non-authorized transportation of passengers
- Provide technical expertise to field surveyors as well as
technical and regulatory information to the marine transportation industry
