The department was established in 1936 under the
Department of Transport Act, which amalgamated operations of the Department of
Railways and Canals, the Marine Department, and the Civil Aviation Branch of the
Department of National Defence.
Transport Canada (TC) - Pacific Region is divided
into branches that focus on specific modes within the transportation industry.
They include:
- Civil Aviation
- Communications
- Coordination & Policy
- Finance and Administration
- Human Resources
- Marine Safety
- Programs (Airports & Harbours and Ports)
- Security and Emergency Preparedness
- Surface (Railway Safety & Transport Dangerous Goods)
Transport Canada has implemented a comprehensive transition strategy under
which the department will commercialize many of its operational activities,
overhaul transportation policies, reduce subsidies and cut departmental overhead
expenditures.
Transport Canada Centres (TCCs)
As part of our commitment to make access to our services easier for our
clients/stakeholders, we have established ten TCCs throughout the Pacific
Region. These TCCs will serve their areas to ensure a more efficient system.
Mandate
Transport Canada's mission is to develop and administer policies, regulations
