Enforcement officers are responsible for conducting
inspections, responding to tips and complaints and for investigating
alleged violations. Inspections are conducted to verify compliance
with federal environmental legislation, regulations, permit conditions
and orders. CEPA Regulations include:
Chlorobiphenyls (PCB) Regulations
Fuels Regulations
Export & Import of Hazardous Waste Regulations
New Substances Notification Regulations
Ozone Depleting Substances Regulations
Fisheries
Act Regulations include:
Pulp and Paper Effluent
Metal Mining Effluent
Petroleum Refinery
Effluent
and various industries subject to the general pollution
prevention provisions of the Fisheries Act. Each year Environment
Canada enforcement officers conduct from 400 to 700 inspections
and investigations and respond to over 200 tips and complaints in
BC and Yukon.
