It should not be surprising that Environment Canada is a science-based department. Science, after all, is all about understanding nature. In fact, over 70% of the Department's budget is devoted to science and technology (S&T;) activities, and about two-thirds of its employees are in S&T; occupations. The Department has national S&T; centres and institutes, including the Environmental Technology Centre, the National Wildlife Research Centre, the National Water Research Institute, the Wastewater Technology Centre and the Climate and Atmospheric Research Centres.
