System Safety, Pacific Region is responsible for the safety evaluation and safety promotion within the civil aviation transportation system in the Pacific Region. Our mandate is to promote aviation safety through anticipation and prevention rather than reaction.

Our Mission

The mission of our organization is to provide Transport Canada Civil Aviation and the Canadian aviation community with timely, relevant, and reliable safety intelligence and guidance to manage risks.

Our Key Result Areas

To meet our mission, we must be successful  in the following areas:

  • Occurrence response - Collecting useful data on aviation occurrences.
  • Safety Evaluation - Performing analysis on incoming data, identifying trends, and sharing information
  • Safety Communication - Providing timely safety advise through safety briefings and seminars
  • Program Management - Making effective use of our resources at all times

Clients

System Safety targets air operators, pilots, maintenance personnel, and all persons most susceptible to aviation risks. Appropriate safety messages are delivered to each audience for maximum efficiency and effect.

System Safety Services
The following services are available at Richmond and Abbotsford:

  • Identify potential safety hazards, advise airline managers and report on the status of agreed corrective action  
  • Collect and record data for the purpose of identifying and assessing risks
  • Perform regular safety visits, surveys and reviews for both users and providers of the air transportation system
  • Gather information for CADORS [reports of abnormal occurences from around the region]
  • Monitor CADORS monthly for trends that indicate potential system problems
  • Appoint Minister's Observers to liaise with the Transportation Safety Board on all accident investigations
  • Conduct safety awareness presentations
  • Supply the aviation community with a wide variety of safety information, including a video library and an extensive brochure and poster inventory
  • Target people most susceptible to aviation risks and direct appropriate safety messages to them
