2004 National Pollutant Release Inventory Data - Preliminary Unreviewed Version Release

Environment Canada has posted a preliminary unreviewed version of the 2004 National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) database. Please see below for considerations and disclaimers regarding the interpretation and use of this preliminary unreviewed version of the 2004 NPRI data.

Legislated under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999), the NPRI required owners or operators of facilities that met reporting criteria as described in the Notice with Respect to Substances in the National Pollutant Release Inventory for 2004, published in the Canada Gazette, Part I to submit a report to Environment Canada by June 1, 2005.

Environment Canada extended the deadline for reporting, for the 2004 reporting year only, from June 1 to July 4, 2005. For more information please see the extension notice.

In addition please note that the 2004 data is current as of August 3, 2005.

Environment Canada will regularly post updated data while conducting its routine review of the reported information.

Disclaimer Respecting Early Release of 2004 Data

These data were submitted by various facilities across Canada and are presently being reviewed and analyzed by Environment Canada. These data are provided for information purposes only. Environment Canada assumes no responsibility for the accuracy or reliability derived from the NPRI data. No information obtained from the NPRI data shall create any warranty not expressly made herein. It is hereby acknowledged and agreed that the use of the preliminary unreviewed 2004 NPRI data is done at the user's own discretion and risk.

Consequently, we cannot derive any trends or develop any information products from this 2004 preliminary unreviewed data as they have not yet been analyzed or interpreted by Environment Canada. Any interpretation of the data or their comparison with previous years' NPRI data must consider the possible presence of estimation or calculation or input errors made by facilities. Furthermore, reporting errors may include but are not limited to the following: incorrect NPRI IDs reported, duplicative reports submitted, transcription problems, city names were not entered, etc. Facilities reporting to the NPRI are legally required to provide the best information which they possess or can reasonably be expected to have access.
