Test Fleet Selection / Verification
The vehicle manufacturers perform all emissions and fuel
economy testing for new model vehicles and send a summary to the appropriate federal
department. Emissions summaries are reviewed by Environment Canada; fuel economy summaries
are reviewed by Transport Canada.
Each year a specific number of new model vehicles are
purchased and tested by the canadian government and the results are compared to the
data received from the manufacturers. Both Environment Canada and Transport Canada work
closely with the vehicle manufacturers to resolve any differences in test results.
The following factors contribute to the selection of the
canadian test fleet:
- high production volume
- new engine technology
- a specific problem in a previous model year.
