Data Categories

The data collected falls into two categories: model type fuel consumption information used for publication and detailed vehicle and test data used to verify the published information.

The model type fuel consumption information includes a vehicle make and model name, engine size, transmission type, fuel type, plus city and highway fuel consumption values. This information is published by Natural Resources Canada in the annual Fuel Consumption Guide, and is also available on their website at: oee.nrcan.gc.ca/vehicles

The detailed vehicle and test data includes an engine description, axle ratio and road load horsepower values, vehicle weight, summary test results and production volumes. This information is used to confirm the fuel consumption values submitted by the vehicle manufacturers and to calculate company and fleet average fuel consumption (CAFC) values.
