Data Collection in the United States
The Certification and Fuel Economy Information System
(CFEIS) is the data system used by the Environmental Protection Agency to process
vehicle emission and fuel economy information. This information is gathered from automobile
manufacturers, testing laboratories, and EPA analysts. The data is used to determine if
a particular car or truck is in compliance with federal regulations so EPA can certify
it for sale in the United States.
