Be a Mercury Sleuth

Find the uses of mercury in the home, and understand more about why this common substance needs to be well-controlled and safely handled…these are the basics of the Great Mercury Mystery Web site. Students can take a virtual tour of a home and guess where mercury is found, understand more about its effects on the environment and do activities that relate to science, math, art and other school subjects.

Teachers can select a subject area and download lessons. An interactive learning tool is available on-line to help teach students about mercury in their homes or check out the list of cool links and other resources available on-line.

Making students a lifelong part of the solution to mercury pollution

Nathan Weir knows how to get young students' attention: he starts with their sneakers. The recent fad of sneakers that light up as they're walked in is one of the latest uses of mercury, a toxic metal. As such these coveted shoes were the perfect entry point for the EcoAction-sponsored Mercury Awareness Program for students in grades four to six. More...

Youth Summit on Sustainable Urban Transportation Logo

The national Youth Summit on Sustainable Urban Transportation will take place in Ottawa on May 10-14, 2002. It will bring together 75 youth from across the country, aged 17-24, to discover and discuss the importance of sustainable transportation in our communities.
