Postal Program -- Importing firearms, weapons and related items

If your business imports any of the following by mail, a copy of your valid Firearms Business License must be included in the parcel:

  • firearms
  • prohibited weapons
  • restricted weapons
  • prohibited devices
  • components or parts designed exclusively for use in the manufacture of or assembly into an automatic firearm

Only non-restricted firearms (see D19-13-2 Importing and Exporting Firearms, Weapons, and Devices - Customs Tariff, Criminal Code, Firearms Act, and Export and Import Permits Act) can be imported by mail.

  • They must be sent using the most secure means offered by Canada Post, which requires a signature on delivery.

You cannot import ammunition by mail.

All military weapons require an import/export permit, which can be obtained from International Trade Canada.

For more information, please contact the Canada Firearms Centre by phone at 1-800-731-4000 or by e-mail.

For more information on customs regulations and procedures, please contact your local CBSA office.
