10 things that YOUTH can do during
Canadian Environment Week...and all year long !!
|
- Three easy ways to save energy: turn off lights, turn taps off tightly and recycle.
- Don't throw old clothes away. Someone less fortunate than you may be able to use them. Organize a clothing collection day at school and give what you collect to a charity.
- Plant a tree in your backyard or at your school. Trees convert carbon dioxide in the air to oxygen that we need to breathe.
- Conserve water by placing a one-litre container filled with water in your toilet tank will save one litre of water each time the toilet is flushed.
- Organize a clean-up day at your schoolyard, the park, or the beach. Keep a record of the litter collected and launch a neighbourhood litter-prevention campaign.
- Hold a contest in your class for the best funny story about the environment.
- Organize skits at your school in which students improvise on the topic of the environment.
- Determine the environmentally important sites in your area with your class and go visit them.
|
- Organize an environment day and exhibit at school so you and your friends can improve your understanding of the environment and brainstorm on ways to protect it.
- Create an environmental reading and discussion club. Exchange books and ideas on pressing issues. Invite speakers to give talks from time to time.

Did you know?
71 per cent or 362 million square kilometres of the Earth's surface is covered by water.
