Waste Reduction Week in Canada occurs in October. But you do your part to reduce the waste you produce all year long. On the Waste Reduction Week Web site, find out what your ecological footprint is, perform a waste audit for your school, learn how to make recycled paper, build a composter or even a recycled bird feeder.
Check out the Too Good to Waste Volunteer and Classroom Handbook (.pdf format) for even more activities and ideas.

The Office of Energy Efficiency of Natural Resources Canada is looking for teachers and their students to participate in the 2003 art contest for next year's Energy and the Environment Calendar. This calendar features artwork by school children ages 6 to13 from all across Canada. A winner is chosen from each province and territory.
The theme is "Taking Action on Climate Change Through Wise Energy-Use".
The Energy and the Environment Calendar encourages children to participate in activities to learn about climate change and how to use energy efficiently. All participants of the contests receive prizes and a special prize package is awarded to the winners. The calendar is then distributed free of charge across Canada upon request.
For contest rules and information on this year's art contest, visit the Calendar Club Web site.
