How a Weather Forecast is Made
Each morning millions of Canadians wake up and ask themselves the same question: "What's the weather going to be like today"? And each day the weather forecast can easily be found online, in the newspaper, on the radio or on television.
But did you ever wonder how a weather forecast is made? What kind of information and data goes into producing a weather forecast? And, who produces those weather forecasts?
Well, those weather forecasts are produced each day by Environment Canada's meteorologists scientists trained to understand weather and the global dynamics of climate. And now there is a new video online that explains how weather forecasts are made.
This eight minute video explains every aspect of producing weather forecasts and severe weather warnings. Find out about collecting weather observations, the machines that are used and how you can become a volunteer Skywatcher.
Environment Canada has been providing weather forecasts to Canadians for over 130 years now. A lot of work, expertise and very advanced equipment goes into producing a weather forecast. Environment Canada employs hundreds of scientists and computer technicians to keep Canadians prepared for normal and extreme weather conditions, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
